This character is too ridiculous for a Nolan film?

Yes. Can you imagine Christian Bale being frozen in ice and having that be taken seriously as a realistic threat?

Yes I can imagine that. I cannot imagine keeping a straight face while Tom Hardy wears a luchador mask and attempts to injure Christian Bale while speaking in a Spanish accent.

that’s just as judgmental as saying you can’t take christian bale seriously when he’s speaking with an american accent as batman. seriously, if someone is a good actor, it doesn’t matter if they’re playing cross-cultural characters.

The Hardy as Bane isn’t cultural, it’s racial. A British born Caucasian male is not a large hispanic man from the Caribbean, no matter how hard he tries. Was Mickey Rooney a convincing asian man in Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Hell no, that was stereotypical and racist as shit. And he was one of the great American character actors, so you would be harder pressed to use the “only bad actors and bad movies do that”.

That’s why it’s called “acting” and I definitely trust both Christopher Nolan and Tom Hardy to be decent people in their respects. If Nolan didn’t have a great vision and character for Bane/Hardy then why would he have cast Hardy in the first place? I trust Nolan’s casting based on his past films, so I feel that it was obviously the best decision he could have made. He may not have had anyone audition (or in mind) for the film who fit the visually ethnic stereotype. On the same note, he may not have even cared about the skin colour of the actor— in more recent comics (Secret Six), Bane is pretty light-skinned. Or he possibly changed Bane’s origin like he did with both Joker and Two-Face in The Dark Knight.  And if Hardy doesn’t have the acting chops to pull off someone that he’s obviously not, then your point can therefore be validated, but until then, I definitely do not agree with you.

Hey, you are more than welcome to have that opinion, but I will remain doubtful.
However as long as we can both agree Tom Hardy is fox-sundae with extra sex on top, I consider us both right. And Chris wrong.
